I have always taken the Godmother role very seriously. I have one god son and one god daughter and I feel very privileged that I was asked. I have made sure I have remembered every birthday (even though sometimes I have been a little late) and every Christmas. I must admit I haven't visited my god children as often as I would have liked, due to where they live, but I would really like to think they could both call me when they needed to. My Godson, Charles was even contemplating doing his work experience with VNU (where I work), he decided to do a ski season instead, not sure why!!!!
Well, there are 2 reasons why I have brought up this topic. The first reason is I am going to be a godmother once again to little Katie Louise, the daughter of one of my top girl friends Lisa. I am absolutely delighted at being asked, especially as the reason for my good relationship with Lisa was actually through Clintons friendship with Gary, Lisas hubby. Clinton and Gary are very good rugby friends and introduced Lisa and myself a good five years ago in O'Neils public house over a vodka and diet coke. Ever since then Lisa and I have grown our friendship and really been through thick and thin.
The second reason for this godmother topic is due to the godmothers both Clinton and I chose for Megan. Rebecca is one of the bestest friends you could ask for, a very loyal person, who would drop anything for one of her friends, who can just be there and support you without actually doing anything because she is so special. She is a fab god mum to Megan and one of the best friends a person could want. I truly appreciate the relationship we have and couldn't think of a better person to influence my daughter through out her life. Amber is my other best friend, one of my oldest chums from those long off school days. She is also very loyal and has always been there for me. Its cool because she (like Rebecca) doesn't ram solutions down my neck but listens to me and helps through just being there. Our friendship has really grown over the years, I have always looked up to Amber, even as a young girl and listened to her wise words of wisdom. Its friendships like Ambers and Rebeccas that makes having godparents worth while.
I feel really bad that we haven't yet had Erin Christening, it is something that I really do want to do. However as time goes on, it makes total sense to do a combined christening with Erin and Baby 3. We can have one big party then. The only problem we will have is who is going to where the family christening gown!!! Maybe I will make a replica. It is also important to have a christening for the right reason. Many people have faiths but don't actually believe in the same one. I do believe in god but I don't want to push that down anyone's throat or have anyone criticise how I feel about what I believe, I just like to believe. The only problem is attending church. I would truly like to go more often but unfortunately Clinton isn't a believer, he doesn't actually enjoy the church experience, I think it makes him feel rather uncomfortable so he just won't come with me. So if I did go from week to week I would be there on my own with 2 1/2 kids and I don't think that would be much fun.
I will find someone sober to come along with me one Sunday morning, I am sure.
Anyway, I must get on, I have enjoyed my own company for a while now and must get off and share the smelly nappy's. Speak soon x
